I would like to introduce the newest addition to the SPEEDY SCRAPPERS team. Tammy Travis
Tammy is a life long Clinton County girl. She enjoys spending time with her family and is blessed to have a beautiful little girl. Tammy was introduced to the scrapbooking world by her aunt. She enjoys scrapbooking but "card are her thing". Tammy enjoys learning new techniques and two of her favorite are dry/wet embossing and adding color to her designs in every way possible. She is currently working on ironing stamp impressions and stamping on transparency. I have made her promise to share these techniques with us.
Be on the lookout for more classes being taught by Tammy, she can't wait to share her favorite techniques with you.

Albums, Albums and Albums

There are many different types, styles and sizes of albums that you can use to preserve your memories. This article is going to explain the different types and styles of scrapbooking albums. This will help you choose the correct album for your project.

Sizes and Shapes of scrapbook albums

The most common sizes are 12 inches x 12 inches and 8 inches x 8 inches. Albums can also be found in 6 inches x 6 inches or 8.5 inches x 11 inches. I have seen albums in 5 inches x 7 inches and 4 inches x 6 inches. When choosing an album size you must choose one that will work best with your project. Keep in mind the number of photos you would like to include in the album, the number of pages needed in the album, and over all style you are trying to convey.
The most common shape of a scrapbook album is a square. Rectangle is the next most common shape. With the introduction of chipboard and acrylic albums, the scrapbook world was introduced to a wide variety of shapes and sizes. Common shapes are circles, squares, flowers, or hearts. Acrylic and chipboard albums can also be found in the shape of crowns, castles, houses, cars, or crayons. With the use of personal die cutting machines, the sizes and shapes of chipboard and acrylic albums are only limited to your imagination.

Types of scrapbook albums

Post Bound scrapbook album: A post bound scrapbook album has top loading sheet protectors that are bound into the album with two or three posts that can easily be taken out and more pages added in or removed. This type of binding makes it possible to expand the size by post extenders. This makes it easy to add more scrapbook pages or to rearrange pages that you've completed.
Strap Hinge Scrapbook album: A strap hinge scrapbook album has flexible plastic straps in the cover that run through wire loops embedded in each page. This binding allows for easy removal or addition of scrapbook pages. The number of extra pages that can be added is limited by the length of the binding strap. It cannot be expanded. This type of album generally does not come with sheet protectors and you will have to purchase them separately.
3-ring scrapbook albums or D-ring scrapbook albums: 3-ring scrapbook albums are just like the binder that you used in school. You can add or switch around pages easily. A D-ring allows pages to lie flat. The best thing is that you can fit a lot of pages into a 3-ring binder scrapbook album. These scrapbook albums use top loading pages protectors as well.
Spiral scrapbook albums: A spiral scrapbook album is bound with a spiral coil. You cannot easily add or remove these pages. These types of scrapbook albums usually do not have page protectors.
Stapled-Spine Albums: A stapled-spine album has staples inserted into a center- fold or attached at one edge of the album to fasten pages to the cover.
Chipboard scrapbook albums: A chipboard scrapbook album’s cover is made from chipboard. The pages are either paper or additional chipboard. Most times these albums are bound with a spiral ring or an o ring. What is chipboard? Acrylic scrapbook albums: An acrylic scrapbook album has transparent pages. In these stunning albums, transparency becomes a design element. Clear acrylic pages allow you to view multiple pages at a time. When seen together, the elements tell a story. With these fun ideas for filling your space, you will enjoy working with transparency and your creativity can flourish.

Copic Markers Update

Since they were on back order for over a week and I was unable to do the planned demo, I decided to extend the special pricing of $45 a set. If you aren't from the Breese area, let me explain what this is. We have 2 high schools in our small town. One is the public high school ,Central and the other is the Catholic high school, Mater Dei. Each year the football team play to see who will win an old milk can and bragging rights for the year.

Let’s Talk About Color
How do you pick out the best colors for your scrapbook projects? I thought I would share with you a little information about color combination and how I go about choosing colors for my layouts.
I first chose the photos I want to use in my layout. I then choose the color in those photos that I want to become my primary focal color. This color can be a color shared in my photos or a color that conveys the feeling of my photos. Yes, colors can convey feelings. Below is a list of the common feeling that color conveys.
Red Aggressive, strong & heavy

Pink Soft, healthy, childlike & feminine
Blue Comfort, loyalty & security

Purple Royalty, sophistication & religion
Yellow Caution, Spring & brightness

Black Dramatic, classy & serious
Green Money, health, food & nature

Gray Business, cold & distinctive
Brown Nature, aged, & eccentric

White Clean, pure & simple
Orange Warmth, excitement, & energy

In order to understand the color wheel which is a great tool you can use help you chose colors, you must know that the Primary colors are Red, Blue and Yellow.

The Secondary colors are Orange, Green, and Violet. Tertiary colors are a mix of a primary and a secondary color.
If you decide you want to go with a monochromatic color scheme, you just simply chose 3 of the same color with a different hue. This means, that your choices will be the same color only lighter or darker.

If you want more that on color, you can chose complemtary colors. These colors are directly across from each other on the color wheel. These colors are visually appealing.
Analogous colors are 3 colors next to each other on the color wheel. This will give you even more choices.
The last color combination is Triadic colors. These colors are colors that are equal distance apart from each other on the color wheel.

I hope that this helps you choose colors for your layouts easier and with greater confidence. Most of all trust your feelings. You will know if colors “look good together”

The yard sale on Sat. was another great success. Many customers were able to trade their older stash items in for Speedy Scrappers Dollars to use toward new items. Many other customers were able to get great ideas at a great price to add to their stashes.

If you have visited the blog during the past 24 hour, you may of noticed the videos of my little employee. I was trying several ways of adding videos to the blog. I think I have it figured out. So be on the look out for a new addition to the blog. We are going to begin a weekly Kids Scrap video series. Each week there will be a new video segment geared toward younger scrappers. This will be a great way for you to get projects to work on with your favorite young scrapper.

For the adults, I will be having a speed scrapping video bar. During these video, I will be sharing with you some useful (I hope) tips, new product reviews, and upcoming projects.

An update on Scrap Pink. We are fastly beginning to run out of chairs. (I can get more) Please let me know by Friday if you are planning on attend so that I will have a spot for everyone to crop. We (Debbie and I ) are looking forward to a fun filled day and evening of scrapbooking.

Shedule and Hour change

Yea, I got Sami's soccer schedule. I have to move the Halloween treat class to a different day. Her first game is that night. Keep your fingers crossed that I get a chance to get the whole month of Sept. class schedule done tonight.

During Oct. she has 3 games on Thursday night. The 15th, 22nd and 29th I will not be opened late on those Thursdays. Don't worry about committing those to memory, I will send out reminders with the weekly newsletters. Just wanted to give you a heads up.

Also please be on the look out for a new email survey. Please take the time to fill this out. This really helps me know what direction to take the store. It also helps me order in product that you guys really want. Think of it as your little way to have a hand in your local store.

Digital Scrapbooking Class

This is an example of the digital page will be creating. I used a free digital kit that I got from http://www.polkadotpotato.com/ from Laura Ping designs Rustic freebies.

We are going to begin a series of 3 digital scrapbooking classes using Photo Shop Elements. I chose this program, because you can get a free 30 trial of the software. We will be doing the classes 3 weeks in a row, so that you can get the classes done before your trial expires. Then you can decide if you would like to purchase the program. The same class will be offered twice in one week. The cost is $10 a class or all 3 for $25. You are welcome to attend both of the same classes in that week for the same fee. Included in your class fee is one print out of your layout created in class. Please call, emai, or stop by with any questions.

A laptop is preferred for this class, but you are welcome to attend even if you do not have one. Mine will be available on a first come basis.

I have had a large number of people ask about the Halloween Tree that we are working on at the store. I will hopefully get fully finished picts posted soon. Here is one of the job in progress. We are an official Scrap Pink store. Now what does that mean? It means that we are partnering with Scrapbooks ect to raise money to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The date for the crop has been set for Sept. 26th. So mark it on your calendar now. Be on the look out for upcoming challenging and special leading to the crop.

The first challenge is to come up with a theme for the crop. So start letting me know your ideas.

Crop Nights and Make and Take Kits

This Sunday, Aug. 2nd, is the Mom and Me crop from 1 pm to 5 pm. We wanted those of you who want a Sunday crop, to feel free to attend this crop as well. You do not have to have a young ones with you to attend. The Cost is $5.00.

Also a reminder that Sat. Aug. 1st is the Saturday Night Crop. Cost $5.00. If you wish to crop both Sat. night and Sunday, you can leave your "stuff" at the store over night.

Thank you to all those who stopped by for our Make and Take Saturday. It was a great success. We will be asking you about ways you think we can improve the fun. For those who were unable to make it, I still have a few kits left for purchase.

Altered Notes Class

Above it what the Altered Notes class project looks like. It is an altered composition note book to give you an idea of the size. This is a great book to keep or give away. They Dates are Aug. 5th 6pm, Aug. 22nd 11am and Aug. 24th 6pm. Call to reserve your spot. The class should last 45 minutes to an hour.

The August calender is finished. Yes, I heard the gasp, and yes I know it is only July 21st. LOL We have several new classes as well as loved favorites. Be sure to attend the FREE Use Your Stash Classes and the monthly crop night. We also have a new instructor, she is going to teach our new Scrapbooking Photography and Basic Digital Scrapbook classes in August. Be on the look out for our design team contest announcement at the beginning of August.

On an other note, THANKS to all who participated in our Scrapbooking Yard Sale. It was a great day and many people cleaned out what they no longer use and we able to get new. It was also wonderful to see all those who stopped by to pick up the great bargains. It was great to be in our new large store. We actually had all the tables up and 8 ladies shopping at one time. And no one had to step on anyone else.

I just figured out on Monday that you guys are paying almost $1.00 for each 12x12 refill when you purchase them in packs of 5. I decided to purchase them in bulk. Now you can purchase them for only $0.45 each. You can also purchase only 1 if that is what you need. I hope this helps stretch your scrapbooking dollar.

Yea, I finally got the photo's of the 3 card we will make in card class. This class will teach you all you want to know about using clear stamps. The only supply you need to bring is adhesive. Come make a 2 page 12x12 spread to celebrate July 4th at our NEW work station on Thursday or Friday. You will leave with a finished 2 page spread that all you have to do is add photos. You need to only bring special adhesive if you want. All other supplies(including glue sticks and my glue runner) are included.

I finally figured out how to get a calendar on the bottom of the blog. YEA! All of the July classes are posted there. It still shows June but all you have to do is go to the arrows on the top left side and press the one pointing left to get to July. To find out the details of the class just click on the class and all the information will pop up.

Thanks to all who stopped by the past 2 days and took advantage of the 40% off sale. That made a huge help in the moving process. We got 99% moved yesterday (Sat) and will hopefully finish the rest later today. We have added more paper racks, more peg board space and more table top space. I am so excited to finish the move and get the new merchandise placed out and order more. Please come and visit the new store.

Moving Sale

We are excited to announce that we are growing and moving to a larger portion of the building next week. We will be moving the opposite side of the building previously occupied by Kreb's Photography and Bob will be moving to our old spot. This is going to allow for the addition of new products and a larger selection.

National Scrapbook Month

During the month of May in honor of National Scrapbook Month we will be holding a different challenge each week. The whole goal of these challenges is to get you scrapbooking. Just bring in your layout or email me a photo of your layout. Each time you complete a challenge you will be entered in a drawing for a $10 gift cert. The drawing will be held June 6th. Yes, you can do more that one challenge each week. You will also get entered into the drawing if you attend our all day crop on May 16th.

If you have a Pazzle Inspiration or use Fun Time software for your cutter, this is a beginner class for you. If you are thinking of buying a Pazzle Inspiration you may come to class and use my computer to try the program. During class we will go over the basics of grouping, shadowing, and learn how to import files into the program and convert them to a cutter file. You will need to bring your computer along. We are opened this Sunday from Noon till 4pm. Can you believe it is already the 3rd weekend in April. Hope all of you had a great Easter weekend. Lots of pictures.
This weekend we will be having a Make and Take going on all weekend. We are going to use clear stamps and the NEW $1.49 inks that have arrived. Also it is not to late to sign up for the Dreamweaver class on Sat. at noon. This is a great chance to work directly with a rep. from the company.
New papers, embellishment and inks have arrived. Stop by to check them out.

I also have a new Big Shot die cut machine and a Bind it All at the store. You can use both with- out charge. For the die cut machine all you have to do is purchase the paper and for the Bind it All all you have to purchase is the coils. I also have a blue Bind it All (my used one) for sale. It still works fine, I just wanted the one that had a slightly larger opening.(and it is pink) The blue one is only $30. Just let me know if you would like to see it.
Sales for this week include 50% off all magazines and 50% off all Flower Soft product.
We have a few changes to the classes later this month.
Wed. April 22nd Bazzill in Stitch'z class will be a 2 page 12x12 spread instead of only 1 page and we will drop the tag. I think a 2 page spread is more useful than only 1 12x12 page. The cost remains the same and includes the stitch template.
The Baby album class will chance from a chipboard album to a true 8x8 album class. The class has 2 options. $25 includes a 8x8 album and $20 is just the pages. This class is filling up fast, so be sure to sign up to reserve your spot.
We will not be cropping on May 2nd. Instead we will be holding a 12 hour on May 16th in honor of National Scrapbook Month 10am till 10pm. Call to reserve your spot. 618-540-0114

A lot of new product has arrived this week. New clear stamps from Hampton Arts, Easter stickers and embellishments, Graduation stamps and embellishments, Prom (dance) stamps, New papers both $0.65 and $0.89. Brad makers and refills. The new We R Memory Keepers cutting system has arrived and I have one out for demo. Baby Safari, both boy and girl, sets are in along with stickers.

I have had some request that the Page of the Months be adjusted to fit in 8x8 frames. I am working on this. April's POTH will be the first one I adjust. I will them get the others caught up. (soon I hope) The POTH will still be 2 pages you can put one up in your frame and then when that month is over you will have a 2 page spread. The cost of the 8x8 POTH class is $8.00. New printer

I am so excited. Our new printer has arrived. It will print up to 13x19. So we can print 12x12 scrapbook pages. Yea. It will also print your 4x6 prints and edit them as well. All you have to do is bring in your memory card from your camera. We also have a new book binding system. Now you can print and bind all of your digital scrapbook pages here in town.

New items and March classes

I have decided to go ahead a order some paper that will be priced $0.89. (most paper companies have increased their prices) We will still have the $0.25 and $0.65 prints. As well as the last chance $0.15 papers. This will allow us to have the "newer" papers. We have some of these papers in stock now. More should arrive later this week.

New $0.65 and $0.25 papers have also arrived. Remember if you are looking for special or holiday papers, they are located in a paper storage bin by the scrapbooks. If you have problems locating these papers, just ask.

New stamps, New Bazzill in Stitchz, New templates, stickers, embellishments, and finally recipe card sleeves are also in. Many more new items should arrive this week and next.

Also, I have March's class schedule done. I actually finished it last weekend (you know the day it snowed, Chris said that I caused this : ) ) I will work on getting it up on the web. Don't forget about the Crops on Sat.

Need your help

We have a tie in the "use a clear embellishment" challenge. I need your help breaking it. During the next week, I will be taking votes to solve this. even if you have already voted, you may vote again.

The new challenge is "use a chipboard embellishment". All you have to do is use chipboard on a scrapbook page or card. The challenges need to be turned it by the 14th of March. I hope many will partake. That is what makes it fun.

On Sat. March 7th Community Link is having a crop from 9-5. Cost $10 and please bring a covered dish. Call or email me with any question. I will be there doing a free make and take during the crop.

We are also having our Monthly Crop at the store that evening from 6 till ? Cost is $5.00 with an optional make and take for an additional cost.

The Miranda Paper Totes seem to be a big hit. She wanted me to thank all of those who have used and reused the totes.
